Reviewer's Comments From Amazon.com

"This is without a doubt the strangest most wonderful watch since Twin Peaks first season... but actually... much better in sooooo many ways. Worth the price just to see Ed O'Niel and Zippy... on repeated viewing this show is one of the highest pieces of writing I've seen in years from TV... or film... too bad the show was cancelled but it still sort of works as a ten episode mini series... it leaves you hanging at the end... but somehow even that sort of works for this... Hey Milch and Nunn... just write a novel to finish it out for us fans." -mickey

John Monad's BIG Words

Here are some ideas about the speech John gives at the end of John From Cincinnati - Episode 6. I have been discussing it with family and friends, and searching the Internet for more info since I saw it. The following are a few ideas that "feel right" to me, or at least seem to be on the right track as to what it all means...

The Actual words from the script are in bold:

First off, my thought was that as John mentions "Father", he was referring to John while he was awake, as we normally see him, acting like a parrot... So, the John actually giving the speech could be the "Son"??? Building on that idea, it came to mind that John could resemble the holy trinity since he was clearly in multiple places at the same time, each with unique characteristics.

"If my words are yours, can you hear my Father?

If John repeats peoples own words back to them in order to communicate, would they hear the truth easier?

Can Bill know my Father, keeping his eye on me?

As a retired police officer, Bill feels more honor in life knowing that he is protecting the Yosts from outsiders.

Can I bone Kai and Butchie know my Father instead?

Butchie has an awakening moment and also ends up having feelings for Kai after John "bones" her. There is a definite connection between Butchie and Kai which we realize from Kai playing a song from when they were back in school together. This could also relate to when John said "See God Kai" and Kai's vision afterwords that included Butchie.

"My Father's shy doing his business.

If John is referring to God as his "Father", the rule is that God can not interfere with free will. He can only guide people and give suggestions, therefore, the "Father" could be looked at as being shy.

Kai helps my Father dump out.

No idea if this has deep meaning yet, Kai simply showed John to the bathroom when he wanted to "dump out" at the hospital when Shaunie was injured.

Bill takes a shot. Shaunie is much improved.

As long as he's being stupid, Bill lets his parrot kiss Shaunie, and he is cured from death.

Joe is a Doubting Thomas.

Joe doubted that he actually healed John's wound, he more likely thought it was a prank. Also "Doubting Thomas" is a religious reference.

Joe will save Not-Aleman. Joe will bring his buddies home.

Aleman is believed to be the man who stabbed John in the van. Joe's buddies were in the war with him and it seems something traumatic happened over there...

This is how Freddy relaxes. Cup-o'joe, and Winchell's variety dozen.

This references to Freddy playing the sax at the Motel, Bill ended up joining him by playing is harmonica. He and Bill also shared coffee and donuts together after Bill's parrot instructed him to do so. Since that time, Bill and Freddy have grown to understand that although they could not be more different, they are both looking out for the best interests of the Yost family.

"Mitch catches a good wave. Mitch wipes out. Mitch wipes out Cissy. Cissy shows Butchie how to do that. Cissy wipes Butchie out. Butchie hurts Barry's head. Mister Rollins comes in Barry's face. My Father runs the Mega-Millions.

Mitch is a famous surfer, then he hurts his leg and his career is finished. He takes this misfortune out on Cissy, who in turn takes it out on Butchie, who in turn takes it out on Barry. Then Mr Rollins (the dead guy in room 24) joins in picking on Barry. Then Barry wins the lottery from a "vision" he had showing him the winning numbers.

This one part describes a series of events that had the domino effect of changing the entire Yost family for the worse. With a sort of "butterfly effect", if one was able to change the beginning and Mitch didn't hurt his leg, the entire family would be much different then how we see them now in the show.

"Fur is big. Mud is big. The stick is big. The word is big. Fire is huge. The wheel is huge. The line and circle are big. On the wall, the line and circle are huge. On the wall, the man at the wall makes a man from the circle and line. The man at the wall makes a Word on the wall from the circle and line. The Word on the wall hears my Father.

Evolution of man and invention:
  • Fur (clothing) is big, Mud (shelter) is big, The Word (language) is big.
  • Fire (Light, Heat, Fuel) is huge, The Wheel (transportation) is huge
  • The line and circle are big, but On the wall (written language) is huge
The zeroes and ones make the Word in Cass's camera.

0's and 1's are binary language used in all computers, digital cameras, etc... The 0's and 1's are the circles and lines of today's modern communication.

There seems to be a few good theories for what Cass's Camera actually is:
  • An alternate reality that John can help bring about
  • Past events that everyone wishes they could change
  • Film can depict true events but leaves out details for the sake of a good story

In the Word on the wall that hears my-Father-in-Cass's-camera, the good one Mitch catches doesn't wipe Cissy out. In the-Word-that-hears-my-Father, Cissy shows Butchie something else.

Unfortunate events in the Yosts life don't happen...

In-my-Father's-Word, Cissy shows Butchie in Shaun. In-my-Father's-Word, Tina raises Shaun at lunch.

Cissy sees the good qualities in Shaun that he got from his father.

Tina is able to be a mom to Shaun for a short time making him a tuna sandwich. This really is the first step towards being a "mom" to Shaunie and moving away from her shady past.

In Cass's-camera, Butchie lays the court out for Barry, and Mister Rollins watches, and he doesn't come on Barry's face. In Cass's-camera

Butchie helps Barry with he Hotel work instead of being a junkie, and Mr. Rollins watches instead of abusing Barry as a child.

Butchie knows Kai kept the faith.

While Butchie was hitting rock bottom shooting heroin in his apartment for years, Kai had saved his surf boards for him instead of selling them off like he would have done for dope money if he had been given the chance. Kai was possibly the only person that had faith that one day, Butchie would return to the ocean doing what he was meant to do.

In-my-Father's-Word, the Wave lifts them up.

In a literal sense, this could relate to Mitch's levitation. On a more intoverted take, this could be that the Yost family are all gifted surfers. It is there, in the ocean, that they all feel more at peace with the world and closer to a spiritual connection.

In Cass's camera, Bill doesn't bump his head on the stairs. In Cass's-camera, as long as he's being stupid, Bill gives Lois a kiss.

I have a feeling that Bill bumping his head on the stairs might actually have something to do with his wife's death. Maybe he bumped his head and passed out at a time when she needed him most?... Maybe he wishes that he could have given Lois a kiss from his bird the way that he did with Shaun. I hope to get more clues on how Lois actually died.

In His-Word-in-Cass's-camera, the Internet is big. Nine-Eleven is big, but not every towel-head is eradicated. In His-Word, We are coming Nine-Eleven-Fourteen. In my-Father's-Word, Bill sees how Freddy relaxes.

In Cass's-camera, Ramon wants to know who's hungry, in the courtyard and Room Forty-Five. "In my-Father's-Word-to-come-in-Cass's-camera, Doctor Smith calls Ocean Properties. In Cass's-camera-to-come, my Father stares Not Aleman down, and Freddy sees Bill much-improved. "You will not note my-Father's-Word, nor remember Cass's-camera, but you will not forget what we did here."

As you already know, this speech is quite involved. I haven't had time to make a comment for the entire speech yet. Although, I am working on it...
